We expected this, we didn’t expect it to be this hair-raising.
We got a call from a parent in the Middle East seeking a Paediatric Cardiology surgeon. The patient, a 12-year-old had a small Ventricular Septal Defect (Hole in heart) along with a Double-chambered right ventricle (DCRV). The parent had done their homework and had complex questions to ask.
Since Paediatric Cardiology interventions are team driven, we felt it would be great to get a Paediatric Cardiologist and Paediatric Cardiology Surgeon involved.
One such panel could make it for the engagement but there was a catch – the doctors were in a far-away medical camp performing surgeries in a once war-torn region of the world.
This was truly a team effort, but we pulled it off, getting a consult organized within 4 days, between 3 time zones, and 2 Paediatric cardiologists.
The resulting call was exceptionally rich in information for the parent who had concerns about surgical aspects, time-to-recovery, and quality of life concerns.
